RACGP concerned over Lyme disease treatment

USING long-term antibiotics to treat patients with Lyme-like illness raises concerns about causing harms, including antimicrobial resistance, a spokesman for the RACGP says.

Adelaide GP and academic Professor Nigel Stocks, from the University of Adelaide, told a recent public hearing of a parliamentary committee inquiry focussing on Lyme disease that the college advocates for evidence-based practice.

“Currently, whatever success individual doctors have with their patients, we cannot support many of the treatments currently being used or advocated for in patients with chronic Lyme-like illness
