Real-world dabigatran data ‘reassuring’

A large anticoagulant study has found dabigatran significantly reduces risk of ischaemic stroke, intracranial haemorrhage, MI and death compared with warfarin, although it may lead to greater GI bleeding in the elderly.

The real-world US study looked at over 134,000 elderly patients taking either dabigatran or warfarin for the treatment of non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF) from 2010 to 2012.
