Recurrent lip swelling
This had occurred on three separate occasions.
She described the lips as tingling rather than itchy. Transient swelling of the lips occurs in angioedema but this usually settles within 24 hours. More fixed swelling occurs in granulomatous cheilitis but usually only one lip is involved.
A biopsy showed a spongiotic reaction in the epithelium suggesting contact dermatitis. This could be due to lipsticks or lip balms, including sunscreens. Sometimes toothpastes or chewing gums are to blame
