Reduced hypoglycaemia with sitagliptin in elderly

Reductions in blood glucose levels were similar for both drugs.

The 178 patients taking sitagliptin achieved the same average drop in HbA1c levels as the 195 patients on a sulphonylurea, but the latter were four times as likely to have one or more episodes of symptomatic hypoglycaemia. More than 28% of patients taking sulphonylurea experienced hypoglycaemia, compared with just over 6% of those taking sitagliptin.
