Report card raises hepatitis alarm

There are 250,000 Australians aged 40 and older living with untreated hepatitis B or C, according to a new report card released to mark World Hepatitis Day.

It shows that 5% of Australians with hep B are receiving treatment and just 1% of those with  hep C.

"This analysis reveals that more people are living in the liver danger zone than we have in a city like Hobart,” says report card co-author Professor Greg Dore from Sydney's Kirby Institute.

"This is a major problem that's not going away." - AAP
