Resistant bug migrates from Australia to Europe

Three cases of the ST93-MRSA clone were identified in an outbreak in the French scout camp and an additional two cases were identified elsewhere in France, and are likely to have been spread through foreign travel.

“This underlines the potential role of travellers in the intercontinental spread of strains, as observed for other CA-MRSA strains, such as the USA300 strain in France in 2009,” the authors wrote.

Since it was identified in 2003 the ST93-MRSA has spread through communities in Australia and accounts for about 64% of CA
