Restless legs syndrome ups male mortality

A condition characterised by an almost irresistible urge to move the legs, particularly at night, RLS affects up to one in 10 people, according to the US study.

Researchers followed more than 18,000 men with RLS for eight years and found a 39% increased risk of mortality, most frequently associated with respiratory, endocrine and nutritional/metabolic diseases as well as immunologic disorders.
