Review warns on withdrawing medications in heart failure

Patients with chronic stable heart failure should still continue their medications, particularly ACE inhibitors and diuretics, experts say.

This advice most likely extended to aldosterone antagonists and combination hydralazine / nitrates, said the Melbourne-based cardiologists including Professor Henry Krum.

Writing in the Journal of Cardiac Failure, the doctors noted polypharmacy was common in heart failure patients and was often associated with increased drug interactions and reduced adherence to medications.
