Rheumatology papers lack self-critique

Rheumatology researchers are shying away from discussing the weakness of their own work for fear it may harm them in the peer review process, researchers say. 

The review of 223 original articles published in three editions of the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, Arthritis and Rheumatology, and Rheumatology last year found that just over half contained self-critique in any form.

According to the authors basic science researchers were most guilty of ignoring the shortcomings of their studies.
