Safety of melamine bowls for serving hot food in question
Taiwanese researchers tested the urine of 12 healthy participants 12 hours after they ate noodle soup from melamine or ceramic bowls. Three weeks later they switched bowls and were tested again.
The total melamine excretion in the urine of those using melamine bowls was 8.35µg, and 1.31µg for those using ceramic bowls.
“Although the clinical significance of what levels of urinary melamine concentration has not yet been established, the consequences of long-term melamine exposure still should be of concern,” the authors wrote.
