Screen CAD patients for macular degeneration: study

The severity of coronary artery disease is independently linked to risk of early age-related macular degeneration (AMD), Sydney researchers have found.

Data from over 1,600 patients assessed at a tertiary hospital for coronary artery disease showed a prevalence of early and late AMD of 5.8% and 1.4%, respectively.

But those with greater than 50% stenosis in any coronary artery segment had around double the odds of early AMD.
