Screen neuropathy patients for coeliac disease: researchers
PATIENTS who have neuropathy should be screened for coeliac disease due to a significant association between the two conditions, the authors of a large study suggest.
They say the risk of developing neuropathy is 2.5 times higher in people with coeliac disease compared to the general population.
The nationwide study of 28,000 Swedes with biopsy-verified coeliac disease and 139,000 controls also found patients with neuropathy are at increased risk of being diagnosed with coeliac disease.
