Script forgery alert as thieves go high-tech

A warning has sounded that script forgers and thieves are upping the ante in their quest for Schedule 8 drugs, with health officials even suggesting doctors lock up their printer paper trays.

The WA Health Department has reported it is detecting “hundreds” of forged S8 prescriptions annually, although it fears most forged scripts for medications such as oxycodone and morphine are escaping detection.

This was because forgeries commonly involved theft of prescription stationery, usually from a doctor’s house or car.
