Severe hypos raise cardiovascular risk
The analysis of six studies involving nearly a million patients showed severe hypoglycaemia doubled the risk of CVD and 1.56% of excess CVD incidence could be attributed to it.
The authors said a bias analysis showed the association was not explained by comorbid severe illness.
“Because intensive glucose control increases the risk of severe hypoglycaemia, the findings of this study add to the evidence supporting individualised glycaemic targets in people with type 2 diabetes,” the authors wrote.
