Sex and type 1 diabetes: ‘take it off to get it on’

Nearly one in four people with type 1 diabetes surveyed about how technology impacts their sex life say they don’t use an insulin pump because it gets in the way of a good time.

An online survey of 285 patients in Western Australia shows that pumps and continuous glucose monitors (CGM) can impact intimacy and reduce quality of life, researchers say.

Among the 125 respondents who used insulin pumps, half reported that the device interfered with sex because  it ‘interrupts the moment’, ‘tangles’ or ‘pulls’.
