Shades of fat
DR PAUL Lee is hunting for patients on just a single medication for hypertension. Surprisingly, he wants them for a study on brown fat.1
Dr Lee, from the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Sydney, plans to switch them to an alternative blood pressure medication which he thinks may stimulate the growth of brown fat.
If they do grow more brown fat, he hopes it may bring metabolic benefits — perhaps even increasing insulin sensitivity.
His trial is one of the first attempting to use a blood pressure medication
