Shiftwork adds to cardiovascular risk factors for employees
International researchers analysed the results of 34 studies involving more than two million participants.
Shiftworkers were 23% more likely to have a myocardial infarction, 23% more likely to have a coronary event and 5% more likely to experience an ischaemic stroke. However, they were not more likely to die from these events than non-shiftworkers.
People working night shifts were found to have a 41% higher risk of experiencing a coronary event.
