Should we recommend steam inhalation to patients?
STEAM inhalation has been recommended for relieving the symptoms of respiratory infections. Will you recommend it?
A study involving 150 Welsh GPs has shown that this treatment has risks. Over a period of five years, 16 children required treatment in a burns unit because of steam inhalation injuries. Their mean age was a bit older than seven. Most of the injuries were partial thickness burns which could be managed with dressings.
