Single-child family a weighty issue

In this study, only children were more likely to grow up in single parent homes, they had less playtime outdoors and they also had a higher propensity to consume sugar. Other factors included being more likely to have parents supportive of food as a reward and being more likely to have a television in their bedroom.

However even those behavioural mediators did not attenuate the association between being an only child and being overweight.
