Single-dose flu vax fine in mild egg allergy, say experts

GPs can safely administer influenza vaccines to children with milder forms of egg allergy in a single dose, experts say, contrary to Australian guidelines.

The currently available vaccines each contain less than 1 microgram per gram of the egg protein ovalbumin as a hangover from their egg-based manufacture, say allergy specialist Associate Professor Raymond Mullins and paediatrician Associate Professor Michael Gold.
This could be safely administered in a single dose in cases of mild allergy, they wrote in a letter to the MJA published online today.
A split-dose protocol should still apply for
