Smokers running out of puff
A Brazilian study has found smokers are less physically active than non-smokers.
The daily physical activity of 60 smokers, measured with a pedometer, was compared with 50 matched non-smokers.
Lung function, functional exercise capacity, quality of life, anxiety, depression, self-reported comorbidities and smoking habits were also assessed.
Results revealed smokers took on average 1500 fewer steps per day and had worse lung function, functional exercise capacity, quality of life, anxiety and depression.
