Social reprieve for childhood diabetes?
The research involved the analysis of 57 studies. Children with neurological disorders such as seizures or spina bifida had the largest poor effect for social competence, followed by children with obesity.
Children with blood disorders, such as haemophilia, had moderately increased problems with social competence.
However, children with asthma or diabetes did not have significant differences.
Children with cystic fibrosis and diabetes were the only groups with no deficits in cognitive functioning.
