Some medical students harbour serious misconceptions about the flu vaccine

MISCONCEPTIONS about the influenza vaccine are common among Australian medical students with one in three from a NSW campus believing there’s a risk of getting the flu from it.

A survey of 660 students enrolled in medicine at the University of NSW suggests attitudes to the vaccine are mostly positive but personal uptake might be hindered by ignorance.

Some 44% of vaccinated students believe there’s a risk of getting the flu from the vaccine compared to 60% of unvaccinated
