Statin use in Aus highest in first world

According to the OECD report, Health at a Glance 2013, Australia had the highest cholesterol-lowering drug consumption in 2011 of 137 defined daily doses (DDD) per 1000 people per day, the highest of all 34 OECD countries. Cholesterol-lowering drug consumption in Australia, just above that of the UK and Slovenia, had more than tripled since 2000.

The high rates of cholesterol-lowering drug consumption paralleled obesity rates, of which Australia had one of the highest in the world at 28.3%, behind only the US on 36.5%, Mexico on 32.4% and New Zealand on 28.4%
