Statin use in cardiac surgery questioned

Cardiologists should abandon the use of statins in treatment-naïve patients undergoing cardiac surgery as it may lead to kidney injury, say US researchers.   

Many observational and preclinical studies have suggested perioperative statin therapy has a safe and beneficial effect on kidney function.

But the Tennessee researchers randomised 199 patients naïve to statin treatment to high-dose atorvastatin
