Statins in first trimester not harmful: study

The authors of the study in the BMJ, based on a large US data set, suggested the current absolute contraindication for statin use in early pregnancy should be revisited.

In an accompanying editorial, French pharmacovigilance expert Dr Françoise Haramburu described the study as well-designed and reassuring, especially for women who unintentionally use statins in the early weeks of an unidentified or unplanned pregnancy.
