WHEN a patient presents for an STI screen, the tests are done, the results are checked, the treatment is decided necessary or not, but that’s not where it ends.
Unlike many infections, most STIs require follow-up testing. This provides an opportunity to discuss ongoing risk behaviours, treatment compliance, safe-sex messages, and follow-up of contact tracing.
Obviously the timing of the repeat testing will vary depending on the circumstances and the STI.
Retesting may be required for the following reasons.
