Stroke costs high even ten years on

Medical costs for stroke survivors do not dip beyond the five-year mark, and in fact continue to rise for intracerebral haemorrhage, a Monash University study finds.

The research looked at direct health costs in 286 people who had survived a stroke and were still alive 10 years on.

For ischaemic stroke average annual healthcare costs at 10 years were $5,418, which were not much different to costs three to five years after stroke.
