Stroke risk after TIA drops dramatically

Previous international estimates suggested that about 10% of people who presented with TIA would go on to have a stroke in the next 90 days, but researchers from Monash University have found that in Victoria the overall 90-day stroke risk has dropped to 3.1%.

They found the declining trend was more likely among men, in those treated in public hospitals with access to stroke units, and in patients requiring ED-only care, receiving brain imaging and without a concurrent traditional cardiovascular risk factor.
