Stroke survivors face further mortality risks

Women who survive stroke are still far more likely to die earlier than the general population, according to a 12-year longitudinal study.

The study led by Professor Julie Byles (pictured) from Newcastle University found 38% of older Australian women who reported a first stroke were still alive after 12 years, compared with half of women who reported prevalent stroke and 66% of women who reported no stroke.
