Stroke survivors may show balance improvement with yoga

Researchers tested the potential benefits in 47 survivors whose stroke occurred more than six months earlier. The oldest participant was in his 90s.

The group was divided into three. One arm did twice-weekly yoga for eight weeks, a ‘yoga-plus’ group did yoga and listened to an at home yoga/relaxation recording, while the others had usual medical care.

Those in the yoga groups significantly improved their balance. The authors said balance problems can last long after stroke and the survivors in the yoga groups reported being less afraid
