Study assesses uric acid and alteplase in stroke

Giving uric acid (UA) and alteplase to women with acute ischaemic stroke leads to better 90-day outcomes compared with men given the same combination, Spanish researchers have found.

Their study of 411 patients shows 42% of the women treated with UA and alteplase within 4.5 hours of an ischaemic stroke report excellent outcomes after 90 days compared with 36% of men.
