Study casts doubt on value of lipid-test fasting

The widely recommended practice of fasting for eight to 12 hours before a lipid test is unwarranted, say US experts.

Published in Circulation, their study looks at the long-term value of lipid panels to predict death and heart disease in both fasting and non-fasting cohorts.

Prognostic accuracy was about the same in both groups, according to the analysis of data from 16,000 people with an average follow-up of 14 years.
