Study finds diabetes screening does not reduce mortality

The first attempt to evaluate the effect of type 2 diabetes screening programs on overall mortality rates in a population found no association with a reduction in all-cause, cardiovascular, or diabetes-related mortality within 10 years.

Analysis of the number of deaths over 10 years in a group of more than 20,000 patients aged 40–69 at high risk of diabetes across 32 general practices in Eastern England, split between three groups, revealed that overall mortality was not reduced in the groups where screening took place.
