Study finds UVB treatment reduces eczema in children

The first prospective study of narrow-band UVB treatment in children was conducted among 29 cases (age 3–16 years), whose outcomes were compared with 26 children for whom the therapy was indicated but who chose not to have it.

Those undergoing the therapy had a 61% reduction in eczema according to an objective scoring system compared to 6% among the unexposed children.

In addition, the UVB light treatment also improved pruritus, sleep loss and overall quality of life, the researchers said.
