Study highlights OA treatment gap

Australians with knee or hip osteoarthritis are unlikely to use best-practice conservative interventions, according to a study of 591 volunteers.

Although most participants were overweight or obese, 40% had never made an effort to lose weight, according to the study published in the journal Arthritis Care and Research.

“A very large proportion had never used conservative strategies at all,” says study leader Associate Professor Rana Hinman (pictured) of the University of Melbourne.
