Study identifies obesity as a cause of heart failure

Queensland Brain Institute researchers and international colleagues used a Mendelian randomisation analysis to look at the link between an adiposity-associated variant of the fat-mass- and obesity-associated (FTO) gene and various cardiometabolic traits in 200,000 people.

Mendelian randomisation analysis also found BMI linked to the FTO gene was associated with a 37% increased risk of developing diabetes compared with about a 15% increased risk observed in previous studies, the researchers said.
