Study links maternal RA to epilepsy

The children of mothers with rheumatoid arthritis are almost twice as likely to develop epilepsy in early childhood, a Danish study shows.

As no additional risk is linked to the father’s RA status, the study authors suggest factors in in utero may play a role.

Children born to mothers with preclinical RA also had a 26% greater chance of developing epilepsy in childhood compared to controls.
