Study looks at extended-release steroid for knee OA

Extended-release triamcinolone acetonide provides superior pain relief than the standard immediate-release formulation of the same drug, according to a study involving 228 patients with osteoarthritis of the knee.

Patients randomised to a single intra-articular injection containing 40mg of extended-release triamcinolone acetonide (known as FX006) reported significant improvement in pain relief, stiffness and function than those on the immediate-release version.
