Study maps cartilage loss before knee replacement

Cartilage loss accelerates in the two years prior to knee replacement, an international study finds.

The researchers compared the trajectory of over 160 patients who had knee replacement due to osteoarthritis with controls matched for age, gender and baseline radiographic status who had not had their knee replaced.

They found greater cartilage loss in the central medial tibia in the knee replacement group in the years prior
