Study provides insights into RA obesity paradox

RA patients who are obese are more likely to have severe disease and require aggressive treatment compared to normal weight patients, results of a large international study confirm. 

Presenting his findings to the conference here in Paris lead author Dr Christopher Sparks said increasing levels of body fat were associated with a heightened production of pro-inflammatory signaling proteins and raised levels of inflammatory markers. 

This in turn inflated DAS scores that, in a world of treat-to-target regimens, could mean obese patients were receiving more aggressive treatment compared to
