Study uncovers foot ulcer risks

Around one in seven diabetes-related foot ulcers needs in-patient treatment, according to Australian researchers who have conducted a study that shows peripheral sensory neuropathy (PSN) and peripheral arterial disease (PAD) are major risk factors for the condition.

The researchers, led by the University of Western Australia’s Professor Timothy Davis, aimed to determine the prevalence and associates of foot ulcer, and the subsequent incidence and predictors of first hospitalisation.
