Swine flu deaths at more than half a million worldwide

Using a new model, researchers calculated that between 151,700 and 575,500 people died in the first year of the pandemic.

They estimated there were 201,000 respiratory deaths (within a range of 105,700 to 395,600) and 83,300 cardiovascular deaths (within a range of 40,000 to 179,900) associated with the pandemic.

Some 18,500 laboratory confirmed deaths were reported worldwide for the period from April 2009 to August 2010.
