Poland saw 26,200 fewer coronary deaths in 2005 compared to 1991, and more than half (54%) of the drop was attributed to “beneficial changes in risk factors” such as more physical activity.

“The major contributors… were large changes in total cholesterol concentration related to diet, plus beneficial trends in systolic blood pressure in women and decreased smoking in men,” they said.
