Target RA women for fractures: study

Women are at higher risk of fracture if they have a diagnosis for rheumatoid arthritis, a large Australian study finds.

The researchers looked at the incidence of fracture in all women over 35 in a region of south-eastern Australia, including 1,000 women diagnosed with RA plus 172,000 controls.

They found that 1.9% of women with RA had sustained a fracture compared with only 1.2% of the general female population.
