TAVI guidelines emphasise multidisciplinary approach

Cross-functional “heart teams” are key to the success of any transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) program, according to the first position statement on the procedure from the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.

The statement, to be published shortly in the society’s journal Heart, Lung and Circulation, outlines operator and institutional requirements for performing TAVI.

It says the procedure, an alternative to surgical replacement for high risk populations, requires a combination of skills in percutaneous structural cardiac interventions and surgery.
