TB vaccine recalled after contamination concern

Sanofi Pasteur is recalling all unused batches of the vaccine in Australia due to concern about contamination occurring during the manufacturing process, the TGA said.

The vaccine, which has also been recalled in Canada and New Zealand, comes from Sanofi Pasteur’s Canadian manufacturing plant.
The BCG vaccine is given to newborns in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities that have a high incidence of TB, newborns and children younger than five who will be going to countries with a high prevalence of TB, and newborns born to parents with a family history of leprosy.
