TBI and Alzheimer’s share pathologies

People who have suffered a traumatic brain injury have a buildup of amyloid plaque similar to that in Alzheimer’s disease, an imaging study shows.

PET and MRI scans of people with TBI revealed plaque buildup in the posterior cingulate cortex, similar to what is typically found in Alzheimer’s patients. There was also deposition in the cerebellum, which is not usually found in Alzheimer’s until the late stage of the disease.
