Telephone counselling has limited impact

A study in 300 people with type 2 diabetes who were either overweight or not doing enough exercise showed that regular counselling reduced weight by 1.52kg after 18 months.

Physical activity increased by 42% in the telephone counselling group but HbA1c, cholesterol, triglycerides and BP were unchanged.

Two years after follow-up, only increased physical activity was maintained, suggesting the utility of the telephone counselling approach was limited, the authors said.
