FAMILY and friends of people who have taken their lives or attempted suicide may ask themselves some common questions: Why didn’t I see this coming? What could I have done?

It is conservatively estimated 65,000 Australians make a suicide attempt each year, and the average rate of suicide in Australia is 11.2 per 100,000.

Between 15% and 25% of people who have tried to kill themselves will attempt suicide again, and official statistics report 2300 to 2500 people die by suicide a year.
